Quite the SPOOKY disappearing act!

Hello, dear friends! Didn't mean to disappear on y'all like I did... It wasn't intended to be a "seasonal" trick, as I am MUCH happier when I get to craft and visit with the most talented and dear corner of the universe... BLOGLAND!!!! But "the other world" just needed me toooooo much and I had to go cold-turkey to face the challenges presented to me this past week... *sob!* I hope you haven't given up on me all together, as I enjoy you all so!!! I've missed you and your love and FANTASTIC creations so very much! {This NEXT week just has to be kinder....One can hope! DOH!} I am SOOOOO looking forward to seeing what you've been up to! TRULY!

Here's some spirited fun just to say "HEY! I'm baaaaaa-ck!"

Just a fun lil' card I made a while back to showcase some diversity with this cool S/U! set in fun techniques... 1) Making a stamp do more than one job (creating the "forest" with the owl/tree image.... 2) The magic of stamping on GLOSSY card stock and fun effects you can achieve... (glowy pumpkin was first stamped with a solid yellow circular stamp, then dried, then stamped with orange... then ROLLED in black for a shadowy edge... very cool!) 3) "Spotlighting" a portion of the main image with the punched oval.... 4) Watercolor technique ON glossy card stock to create spooky sky with aqua pen and Watercolor Wonder Crayons.. whoopee! - which is such fun: you can really work and re-work the paint over the Staz On stamped owl and tree image... I avoided the eyes and then went back in with a marker to give them a mystical yellow glow.... Oooohhhhhhh ahhhhhh aaaahhhhh! See! All those fun things to do in ONE play ground! It's a wonder I can ever get anything done in "real life!" tee hee

And just another lil' slice of Halloween fun ~ this is a pumpkin I made for DEAR, DEER friends!

Actually, I carved this pumpkin for "Mr. Paper Daydream!" He's the dashing partner to super-craftilicious, herself, sweet Dana G.! She posted a spectacular picture of her man and her darling girls and man, did this baby look sa-wheeeeeet next to them! Anywhoo, it was darling of Dana to feature this along with her most recent work for the JUGS team, so take a peek!

Meanwhile, I surely appreciate you understanding about my blog absence. I WON'T be making a habit of that... I missed ya WAY too much! Please have a darling, sweet and spooky Halloween! EEEeeeeeekkkkkkkk!

All card making supplies were by Stampin' Up!, except for the Staz On ink!

I wish I could think of something funny...

..to say about pigs. Or Swine Flu, or H1N1... but today wasn't very fun or funny. I gathered up the wee-children, books and art materials, snacks and hot chocolate and got on the road, WAY early for us on a Saturday morning, to hit a "drive thru" flu shot clinic. I figured me, a few hundred other concerned parents, kids and a handful of teachers and health workers would converge on a local high school parking lot, wind through long, coned-off serpentines to the tune of several hours and many rows of eager, dedicated health care workers... a lot of patience...

Okay, try SIX hours! And THOUSANDS of car loads of local families! Not enough traffic control or planning... and a freakishly hot October day... *Phewwweeeee!* Miraculously, though, patience did prevail and even though I considered quitting several times.. we made it. I'm not exactly laughing, but I am feeling relieved... In fact, I felt so relieved that my kids are a little more prepared to face this scary flu season.... THAT I CAME HOME AND MADE A CARD!

Oh yeah, baby! All that time, reassuring my kids that mom is NOT crazy and that we must STAY the COURSE... Meanwhile, "in my happy place" ~ I'm thinkin' about something to do with Dawn's latest colors in her Raspberry Suite #18 color challenge! Talk about your multi-tasking!!

If you've seen all the crazy-GORGEOUS cards Dawn has been making on her blog this season, you'll understand why I had to go all Christmassy on these colors! Here's a close up of some of the fun!

{I am POWERLESS over this snowman!} I just want to share some of my favorite discoveries as I made this card in joyful celebration of surviving "H1N1" flu-shot festival 2009... Okay, first there's the sueded hat! I had a tiny swatch of light brown "faux suede" paper, kicking around on my desk top, so I stamped it with dark brown Staz-On! I just think it looks so REAL! {Just the kind of happy discovery that comes from a table-top leftovers!} THEN, there's the Rich Razzleberry Christmas Tree Ornaments... One of my favorite techniques - EVER! { Okay, I don't actually know if its a technique } Instead of paper pieceing "ornaments"... I paper punch.. and then POP contrasting paper BEHIND the image.. there's just something so electric and magical about this! Yes, I was the kind of kid who would set up shop, right under the family Christmas tree and just STARE and STARE at the web of blinking lights... I was fascinated by the layers upon layers of mismatched strands, lights blinking, some constant... BUT all, creating the unforgettable holiday magic of LIGHT! And THAT was the effect I wanted for these trees! I hope it works a little magic for you, too!

ALSO, another fun discovery in the making of this card was when, tired of using my same scallop punches AGAIN and again... I was inspired to take my new, square shaped Sizzix/S/U! Die with Chocolate Chip Card Stock and then lopped off either side to make this handy lil' panel with scallops on the top and bottom... Fun, fun! So, that's it, sweet friends! I'm up just a wee-bit late trying to get this post out before an even busier Sunday morning starts knocking... For now, I hope you know how much I enjoy sharing all of this fun with you! Thanks for stopping by and THANKS for always, ALWAYS being a source for inspiration and and a little solace after a long day of doing "big girl work!" I hope you're all safe and healthy and look forward to seeing what you've been making this weekend!

Retro Boy and JUGS!

It's RETRO BOY!

Ain't he the CUTEST!?! I was overcome with image envy when I saw my adorable friend, Kelley, show off this irresistible stamp, recently. I love how she made him "hers" in her distinctive crisp and elegant minimalist style! Just a few weeks back, I stumbled upon the stamp, locally and I was SO excited to make the lil' guy and his faithful companion play nice WITH ME, TOO!

Further inspiration called to me, when I saw the groovy, retro color scheme for this week's JUGS challenge! Hey, speaking of inspiration, DANA, who is one of the JUGS girls and is my REAL LIFE BFF!, came up with THIS swatch, and is the Hostess, if you will, for this week's challenge!

Here's the card in it's entirety! I know I say, often, that "I had a blast making this card".... but HONESTLY! I did! There's something about being able to put your hands on the right materials for the "job!" Especially, right when you need them! I was SO excited to give this 7 Gypsies tape
the perfect job to do and story to tell! {That's why we hoard, right!?!?!} I'm so RELIEVED that I have (at least several! Ha Ha!) spools of this stuff!

The stamp, from Sassafras, has a drop shadow that didn't "work" for me for my purposes, so ASTONISHINGLY{!} I chose to paper piece him and slap down the simply fabulous cloud background to provide a fun "1st grade Reader" kind of environment... {Just try to pry that one from my inky fingers! DOH! ~ I'm in LOVE!}

Oh, gosh, he strikes such a vintage cord in my foggy, ol' memory! Dick and Jane, perhaps? Anyone recall those cuties and their dog, SPOT!?!

Anyway, lovies! It was an unexpected chaotic day! I hope you stayed warm and dry, wherever you are... I haven't had much chance for visiting, but hopefully tomorrow I can make the rounds of blogland and see what YOU'VE been up to! I'm so delighted you stopped by!

Take care!

Freedom!

It was an extremely FREEING weekend, friends! I spent some super fun time with wonderful crafty gals, makin' stuff! Oh, yeah, you read that right ~ local RETREATING! A super awesome workshop, custom made for PAPER CRAFTERS! Lots of room, lots of light, GREAT MUSIC, hilarious conversation, and shameless enjoyment of our favorite "sport" - wish you had been there, too!

Here's a little somethin' I made:

Ummm, are you wondering why you're seeing a Leprechaun in the middle of October? I know! Crazy, huh? Well, that's where my little mind went there as I tried to answer this, fun challenge:

Samantha, at Scrapmaster's Paradise, sure knows how to mix things up! I wasn't sure I could pull this off, until the little Leprechaun inside of me spoke up! {tee hee} My inspiration was reinforced by this cool sketch from Get Sketchy!

You MUST check out the DT samples on this baby! All of them were so cool, and I was especially inspired by those that opened in a "gate" format! Sprinkle in Samantha's electric colors and THAT BROWN! I was somehow transported to Ireland! {Or the Kingdom of "Far Far Away" ala SHRECK!} Okay, so I was thinking of something that lived in a knothole... woodgrain, brown... Come along with me and we'll spy a Leprechaun...

Ta DA! Here he is! Complete with GREEN BEER! How festive is this lil' guy!?!

Do you get the peephole thing that's happening here? I couldn't do it without a dear, darling, supportive and totally capable old friend - COLUZZLE! Do YOU coluzzle? I know there are so many circle cutting options out there, and I'll probably get them ALL at some point or another, but good old, recently departed... ur, discontinued.... Coluzzle, will always be my friend. I have THREE sets! Ha HA! One that lives in my Mother Tote, one that lives in a drawer, right in the heart of Scrapland, and AND an EXTRA ONE, to get me through my next thirty years! (Just in case!)

The GREAT Get Sketchy sistas tossed in this additional challenge for this week's offering, asking that we try to incorporate a DOODLE/handwritten sentiment - I did both! OVER the stamped sentiment, enhanced with a little marker magic! Not a bad way to add some hand writing ~ blech! I'm not a fan of mine, all by it's little self!

I think it's safe to say that there are A LOT OF WAYS to have a ball with your paper crafting! If you're looking to push up the fun a notch in your own crafting.. I highly recommend some inspirational challenges, gathering with great friends in an environment where you can TRULY be yourself, AND "solving" the creative challenges in your life here in BLOGLAND! Yipee! {Yeah, like you don't KNOW that, already! DOH!}

Well, wherever you got crafty this weekend, I hope it was FABULOUS fun! Can't wait to see what YOU made!

Have Yourself.. a happy little Friday!

And all day long, your troubles will be far aaaaaaaaaa-way........

Yes, indeed. Far, far, away! Like this morning, when I accidentally backed my car into my husband's work truck... *sob* when the fog was as thick as pea soup and my head was stuck on getting kids to school.... and he left the truck PARKED in the wrong spot! {Lol - sort of..}

But, then, I made a card. Now EVERYTHING seems much better!

....In my happy little scene, where the snow flakes taste like cotton candy as they alight upon your tongue... And snowmen give hugs and feel fluffy like downy fleece.... {Yeah, yeah! Go on!} And colors like this, from the wonderful COLOR THROWDOWN gals, INSPIRE!

Oooooowww! It's just magic, this thing we do with paper, and ink and ribbons-a-plenty! Even a little FLOCKING can really cheer a girl up! *wink*wink*

I, cheerfully, incorporated the CARD PATTERNS sketch, once again! Just because it was so fun the first time, and I love it!

So there it is - MY happy source! You n' me and all the beautiful paper, stamps, doo-dads and this great big beautiful blog-o-sphere to share TOGETHER!

{Honestly, this euphoria is REAL! - Card crafting is THAT good! tee hee}

Hey, have a great start to your weekend!

Working With Some Jolly!

Hi, friends! I hope your world is treating you kindly and that you have plenty to feel jolly about! I do! First of all, I have YOU! Second of all, it's a beautiful time of year, the kids are healthy and loving school and my husband IS WORKING, and in just this bit of rain we've had, I can now spy the micro mini grass seed in my mucky horse fields... yesterday they were seeds, TODAY they have the teeniest {we're talkin' the size of a pin head} sprouts, so soon there will be grass! So, friends, it's allllllll good!

Speaking of good, how 'bout a lil' crafting on quietly foggy and misty autumn day! {Oh, baby!} Working with some JOLLY great paper! Some AWESOME challenge inspiration and thoughts of my bloggy and REAL LIFE friends, makes me beyond jolly - how 'bout giddy! Yep. That sums it up! So how 'bout this this fun holiday card to celebrate a perfectly delicious crafty day!

Woah! Do not adjust your set ~ this here is a BRIGHT card! Indeed, practically neon! I made it with not one but TWO challenges in mind (oooooooooowwwwww!)... Composition by the darling CARD PATTERNS crafty princesses:

OF COURSE, I tweaked and rotated things a bit! {Isn't a tweak or two a card maker's prerogative!?! But ov'course!} And, I was soooooo loving the oval shape! I busted out my huge oval/scallop die from Sizzix/Stampin' Up! and just delighted to that sound of my heavy transparency material passing through the wheels of my die cut machine... wait for it ...{Diane O. this is for YOU} and the satisfying C-R-U-N-C-H! Yipeee! Extremely satisfying, is that tool/sound/use of materials! Whooooooeeeee! And, so, (throat clearing!) I combined THIS challenge, for the perfect combo of paper crafting predicament:

THE JUGS! Yes, friends, you read it right! This is a brand spanking new challenge (whoopsie, but the deadline is tonight, so giddy up, if you want to play!) in their second week! Such fun and talented ladies who've created this challenge, and now they have their own blog! Please, stop by and check out their great work and wonderful cause! Love the acronym - LOVE the logo: HELLOOOOOW! And how I will resist not "singing" you Judd's songs every time I make a card for their challenges, WHO knows??????? A N Y W H O O O O O O O! At their "request" I paper pieced SANTA, like a Christmas MADWOMAN! And threw in the PINK to match the grooviest Christmas paper, evA! Here's a close-up!

I used this "vintage" Santa image, that I dearly love, from a retired S/U! set, because he was just so jazzy and fun looking! Stamped him with Staz-On on a heavy piece of transparent material... PAINTED and paper-pieced from the back side and CAREFULLY glued the paper direct to the transparency... hiding the glue spots behind the black outlines.. Sandwiched the whole thing together with more, MORE, M-O-R-E fabulous paper!!!! {Oh, somebody SLAP me ~ I had way too much fun!}

Okay, I'm breathing deeply and calmly now...

Here's a parting shot! {Do with that, as you will - I'm just ZANY today, friends.. Caffeine induced, no doubt!} I jumped in to the faux stitching movement! Boy, is that a little easier then dealing with my ancient sewing machine with mal-adjusted tension, and "metal dust" marks! Whoooooooeeee! So, there! I guess that wraps up my share for today! ADVENTURES in card making - I love it! I hope you're on an adventure of your own - can't WAIT to check you out!

Bye, now!

It's A Warm Fuzzy Day!

No doubt that fall has arrived in Northern California... Today we had our first major storm of the season and for once, the weather forecasters weren't kidding! Lots and lots of rain fell here at Rancho Durenberger: I have cranky horses, wet and stinky dogs and a bumper crop-o-mud! On the upside, we still have power and I've managed to keep my lil' wood burning stove quietly generating consistent heat, but not the kind that sucks down the wood like popcorn! We're warm and dry and thankful. Here's a lil' card to celebrate...

I popped out some Earth Love from Cosmo Cricket that was given to me by my lovely friend, Dana! {Nothin' like spreading Earth Love around to make the WORLD a better place, eh!?! She's the best!} In addition to their FANTASTIC sketch, the girls from Get Sketchy were also asking for some Water Color work, this week, so I tried not to disappoint! I owe them a HUGE SHOUT OUT! I had the fabulous honor of being in their TOP 5, again! And this time, I was "in the money!" Yep, friends - I WON a fabulous paper pack from Pebbles, that the D/T gals made FANTASTIC samples with, so I'm still pretty giddy over that!!! If you want to check out the bounty, please, please visit Get Sketchy {and do tell 'em I sent ya! hee hee}... Just wait until you see their super samples!

Here's their latest sketch:

Oh, this was FUN! Here's a close up of some of my Water Color work!

Such a CA-UUUTE sqirrel image by Hero Arts! I guess I'm really in to creating little "scenes"... I just had such fun with these ingredients! Here's one more shot of my card, just because:

So, my darling friends ~ that's the long and short of my warm and fuzzy day! May you all be warm and dry and with your loviest loved ones! Thanks for stopping by!

Got Color?

I got some.

{Heh, heh.... Mauahhh ahh ahhhhhh!}

I got some right hee-ah!

I was inspired by this, right over hee-ah!

And then I made THIS, right about hee-ah!

And, some time ago, I was inspired and made this:

And isn't this an awesome color swatch, if ever there was one! {Hee Hee} That's m'girl and our special recipe pumpkin muffins! Mmmmmmmmmm! On our way to a fun 4H meeting today!

But I digress! I was a little stumped by these colors when suddenly, like a vision.... I recalled: Lovely As A Tree! {Possibly the oldest stamp set in Stampin' Up! history!} But, friend... this hee-ah set, gave me a vision, and allowed me to complete my offer to the COLOR THOWDOWN CHALLENGE gals, tonight! Yipee! I hope you enjoy and THANK YOU for visiting my lil' crafty spot! I wish you all the joy and pumpkin muffins of the season! Have a great one, dear friend!

Blog Pals!

I love this ~ when friendships and bits of blog life cross over... to the real world! I talk to some of you DAILY! Some of you {xoxo!}, are chatted with THROUGHOUT the day! Some of us chit chat over coffee, and all of you, I wish to READ your funny and creative insights every day ~ if only there were more hours!!! Anywhoo, here is a card that was sent to me.... ALL THE WAY FROM THE EAST COAST!

Friendship Card from LeAnne / Wee Inklings:

LeAnne is a super talent and a delightful blogger, and SHE was the funny gal who "strongly encouraged" me to participate in the Color Throwdown {and when I say ENCOURAGED, I'm mean it!}... which, she is a fabulous designer for! Anyway, isn't this a super sweet seasonal friendship card! Golly gosh, I LOVE THOSE FUN PUMPKINS! Check out Leanne's blog when you have some time! AND, jump in for some super fun color challenge with the CTD girls! You'll be glad you DID!

I made and SENT LeAnne a card that she kindly featured on HER blog! Here is another card that I made with some "card maker's salad" that was leftover on my table top! {Dana, from Paper Daydream calls it "Card Casserole!" ~ isn't that the perfect description!}

Although this weekend wasn't punctuated with the same high level of crafty excitement as WCMD, I do want to share that I was fortunate in having the opportunity to scrap with some darling local scrappers/craft goddesses at a nearby church today~ it was such a lovely way to "keep the love alive" {from WCMD!} and share a super crafty fun day with others who are just as crazy as I am! Tee Hee {THANKS, ladies! What a blast!}

As usual, I'm hoping that YOU, darling blog visitor, friend and co-paper craft lovin' craft goddess, got some craft on today, and if not ~ there's always TOMORROW! {Yee Haw!}

I *HEART* you!

I really do! Do you know why? Because I know that you love this paper as much as I do! Oh, joyful polka dots! I'm in love! So, as excited as I am, thinking Fall, I don't mind taking a mental break from that for a moment, to think a lil' bit Spring! {Lol!} I could barely stand to part with it, but *sigh*, I did! See:

I'm tempted to make up a song to the tune of Muskrat Love... but I'll spare you this time! (HeeHee)

I got busy with this lovely sketch from the talented super crafty gals from Get Sketchy! Look here!

I am pretty excited to toss another into the mix with the Get Sketchy gurus! Their samples are "to die for," GORGEOUS! And, what a hoot: I was soooooooo honored to have my card considered in their TOP 5 from the last sketch! Lots of love to give and share: it's all good fun, babies! {The kind of goodness to help us forget our troubles and BE HAPPY!}

Such happy lil' friends! This is how I feel about my delightful blog friends! All swoony and heart poppin' happy joy when I think about you's... all-o-you'ds! {How U doin'?} ANYWHOO, I don't know if you can see the central, oval image ~ floating! Ain't that fun! I was having such trauma slicing into this paper! So when I decided to follow this sketch, I decided to REMOVE the circle, rather than just cover it! THEN, I'll still be able to use that sweet lil' scrap! I sandwiched some transparency material between the card stock base and this beautiful designer paper to create light and interest in the center image, but not over shadow the happy little squirrels... {Don't you JUST love finding the right material for the job!} Because I'm never too confident with simplicity, and in CASE you missed the two squirrels on the FRONT of the card {hee hee} I put some inside, too!

So, WHEW! That was fun! I hope you can work some Get Sketchy into your week:
what a great design! I sure appreciate you wandering through my lil' forest today!
I hope everything is coming up roses for you!

Tickled Pink!

I am tickled pink by a little nugget of crafty goodness that surprised me this evening... After a long {non-crafty} session of homework (assisting) and horsey chores, I was thrilled to finally log on to my computer, where I was so excited to learn that Dawn McVey gave me the nod in her latest, super FUN{!}, color challenge, right next to some WONDERFUL and super craftilicious card makers...! I'm honored, DEEEEE-lighted and tickled PINK!

I got such a kick out of working with the Dawn's colors this round, and it was just a super fun card to make, so it's safe to say that she certainly made my day... week... month.... year...! {tee hee} Meanwhile, I'm delighted that you stopped in: thank you, to you, too! Without your friendship and support, this wouldn't be nearly such fun!

Baby, Baby, I loved WCMD!

It's late, but who cares! Technically, it's still World Card Making Day and this is my SECOND post of the day {gasp!}! WHAT A COOL HOLIDAY! I hope that soon it will truly be a holiday. Card makers should be festooned with jewels and presented with gifts: revered in their families and communities! WE SHOULD BE CELEBRATED!!!!! People will say this, when we walk by, "stand back ~ there goes a card maker!"

Listen, I hear the choir singing! It's A W E S O M E ! Here's another memento of the day:

Oh, a baby! A wee little adorable baby...! But that's not MY baby: that a "spam" baby! That sweet little tot came right out of the junk coupon mailer, and I picked her to celebrate this groovy challenge:

Click on the link or my earlier post for details... In the meantime, here are some baby details:

Can you even tell that baby is printed on news print! {Sweet lil' baby!} I sponged the edges of the printed image and the edges of all of these elements with white craft ink to soften it all down and give is a warm "new baby" quality... Sweet and powdery and dreamy! Loved the duck image and had to play it up with the use of a "well loved" ducky stamp by "Rubber Stampede"... I colored the ducks with chalk pencils and then added Crystal Effects with a dry brush to set the colors... Then I cropped them and glued them on top of some {*swoon!*} Tim Holtz Fragments, that had been glued to Making Memories D/P.... I thought they made magical embellishments to go with THAT BABY!

Of course, if you know of my passion for Tim's Fragments, then you'll understand why I had to throw these down when I saw this sketch for Limelight Papercraft! A totally new (to me) challenge that I've heard a few of my fave blog buddies, Ann and Sarah, design for! I was so thrilled by their use of this sketch that I decided to give it a shot.

Sweet Mandy, who runs the blog, invited ME to partake after I'd left some love for Sarah, who will be designing for them for a while! Nothing like the crafty "tap on the shoulder!" I was honored! She's got goodies and all kinds of fun over on her blog/store, so check it, if ya can!

So, at final review, I'm clearly having a "thing" with clouds! Tee hee Loving that cloud paper in the background by "My Little Shoebox"... I was trying to pull from scraps and embellishments that are "in the magic bucket" of leftovers that live near my scrap table... {trying to keep in the recycle theme of The kitchen Sink Challenge}.... Anywhoo, I had some scraps from Making Memories "Flower Patch" 6x6" pad sitting out, and I was DELIGHTED that they kind of worked with my colors and I just FORCED them the rest of the way! I really like the quilty quality of some of the swatches and these colors provided an excellent bridge from the baby image to my rad cloud paper! {*sigh!* I just loves me MY paper!}

If any of my explanation seems "vague" or you have any specific questions about my post, technique or materials, please don't hesitate to e-mail me! I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend... and between you and me {shhhhhh!} we can make EVERY DAY World Card Making Day! Yipee!
